Users of semiconductor capital equipment are asked to rate their suppliers in categories that exemplify a supplier's relationship with its customers. In all, there are 13 categories, comprised of seven measures of equipment performance — cost of ownership, product performance, uptime, software, build quality, usable throughput and quality of results — and six measures of customer service — process support, field engineering support, spares support, technical leadership, support after sales, and the vendor's overall commitment to supporting its customers' needs. This year, the survey was translated into six languages and was sent worldwide to North America, Europe, Taiwan, Japan, Korea and other Asian countries, with responding companies representing 96 percent of worldwide chip production in 2003.
